I’m tempted to go full redneck AC with a fan, bucket and some PVC pipping. For now, this will suffice - bowl of ice and a fan. Bruno approves

Not sure where you’re at but swamp coolers (red neck AC as you put it) only work if it’s relatively dry. If it’s hot and humid it won’t do much

Poor fluffer. Hope you’re somewhere reasonably cool.

In AZ a dead AC means you can’t even stay there anymore. I replaced mine in February and couldn’t have been happier. People out here sometimes wait for 3 weeks before they can get in a guy if it fails in the summer.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, and hope it’s not too costly

Denver CO. New AC was $800 and free shipping, and I know a guy that will install it for under $500 I guess, I didn’t really even ask him.

Denver, and swamp coolers work well around here. It’s 76 in the house right now, high of 83 for today, so we’ll see how warm it gets...

It’s not horrible, 76 inside right now and not raising. High of 83 outside today. Other two puppers have way less fur so they are not as hot.

My goodness costs are really different there. Mine was all included (I needed replacement ductwork, new air handler, the works) something like $ 3500

I just need the new condenser unit outside. It would be a different story if I needed more and if I called a company to do it. This is a buy your own unit online and have a buddy install it kind of thing.

That’s a great deal! In AZ I think there are laws that state you have to go through a contractor for some odd reason or another. I don’t see a lot of Buddy installs out here, but I’m no good at HVAC stuff anyway.

I imagine it has something to do with coolant and proper charging. I found a place to recycle the old unit for only $10! I am not complaining about the price at all, and I love buddy deals :). I am from a country where pretty much everything ends up being a buddy deal of some sort.

Came home to a dead AC on Monday. It was around 112F outside. Thankfully it was just an old fuse.

Lucky... ours was making all the noises, but the fan wasn’t spinning. Time for a new one - this was original to the house so it’s 18 years old.

I haven’t bothered turning mine on yet - its a 36 year old system and I really want to make sure its looked over and serviced before I switch it on again this year, earliest weekend date they had was this coming Sunday. Still, worked fine all last year, so here’s hoping its got some more life left in it yet.

Probably just the capacitor if it was still buzzing with no fan movement. I replaced my cap a few years ago. Could also be a dead fan motor. Those are only $100 or so and easy to swap out yourself. Did one on my handler last year.
My unit is celebrating it’s 20th birthday this month. That’s twenty Phoenician summers. Not too shabby. It’s a four ton Trane XE1200.

I could have worked on fixing it, but this unit is 18 years old, it never was enough to cool the house properly and we’re moving out and renting this place in 3 months. I figured it should be replaced with something that should give me no headaches for awhile.
